How to Order Your Pet’s Medication Online

Ordering your pet’s medication online can be quick, convenient, and often more affordable - as long as you follow a few important steps. Here’s our simple guide to making sure your pet gets the correct medication safely and legally.

1. Get a prescription from your vet

Before you can order prescription medication online, you’ll need a valid prescription from your vet.

At Tribe, we’re happy to provide prescriptions for all medications following your pet’s clinical assessment and any required monitoring.

2. Choose a reputable online pharmacy

Always make sure the online pharmacy is properly registered with the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD).

Look for the VMD accreditation logo on the pharmacy’s website. This helps ensure the medications are genuine, correctly stored, and supplied legally.

Be cautious of websites offering unusually cheap medications or sites that don’t clearly display their registration details.

3. Select the correct medication

When ordering, the medication must match your prescription exactly, including:

  • The medication name
  • The strength
  • The formulation (tablet, liquid, spot-on etc.)
  • The quantity prescribed

Even small differences can matter, so double-check before purchasing.

4. Upload your prescription

Most online pharmacies will ask you to upload a photo or scan of your prescription during checkout.

Once uploaded and approved, your medication can usually be dispatched quickly.

Important: some medications need the original prescription

Certain medications - particularly controlled drugs - legally require the original paper prescription signed in ink by the vet.

For these medications, the online pharmacy cannot dispense the medication from a digital copy alone.

If your pet’s medication falls into this category:

  • Allow extra time for postage
  • Send the prescription promptly
  • Make sure the pharmacy has received the original before your pet runs out of medication

Final Tips

  • Order repeat medications early
  • Check expiry dates when your medication arrives
  • Contact your vet if your pet’s condition changes or you have concerns about side effects
  • Never use medication prescribed for another pet

At Tribe Vet, we’re always happy to help if you’re unsure about prescriptions, online pharmacies, or your pet’s medications.
