☀️ Summer Newsletter from Tribe Vets

Summer is here, bringing longer days, warmer weather and plenty of opportunities to get outdoors with your pets. Whether you're heading off on holiday or enjoying local walks, here are a few seasonal reminders to help keep your cats and dogs happy and healthy.

🕷️ Stay on Top of Tick Protection

Ticks are most active during the warmer months and can transmit diseases to both pets and people. Make sure your pet is up to date with their tick prevention, and remember to check them after walks, particularly around the ears, neck, armpits and between the toes.

🌾 Watch Out for Grass Seeds

Grass seeds can easily become lodged in your pet's paws, ears, eyes and nose, causing painful infections. Keep the hair around your dog's paws trimmed, avoid long dry grass where possible, and check your pet carefully after every walk.

🌡️ Keeping Cool in Hot Weather

It's absolutely fine to skip a walk if the weather is too hot - your dog will thank you for it! If you do head out, aim for the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or late evening, always take plenty of fresh water and walk in shady areas.

At home, help your pet stay comfortable by keeping their main living area cool. A fan can help improve air circulation, and you can place wrapped ice packs underneath their bedding (never directly against your pet) to create a cool resting spot. Always make sure they have access to fresh water and shade, and never leave pets in a parked car, even for a few minutes.

✈️ Travelling Abroad with Your Pet?

Planning to take your pet overseas this summer or later in the year? Don't leave it until the last minute. Rabies vaccinations must be given well in advance of travel, and you'll also need an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) issued shortly before you leave. Early planning helps ensure everything is in place for a smooth journey.

If you have any questions about parasite protection, holiday travel or your pet's health this summer, our team is always happy to help.

We wish you and your pets a safe, healthy and enjoyable summer!
