❄️ Winter Wellness Newsletter

A fluffy tabby cat sleeps peacefully on a cream knitted blanket, in front of a glowing fireplace. The scene conveys warmth and coziness.

Winter brings colder temperatures, shorter days, and a different set of health risks for our pets. As your local mobile vet team, we’re here to help you navigate the season and keep your animals healthy, comfortable, and protected - right at home.

🐱 Cats in Winter: Quiet Changes Matter

Cats often cope silently, and winter can make underlying issues more noticeable:

  • Cold weather can worsen arthritis and joint pain, even in cats who still seem active.

  • Spending more time indoors may increase stress, weight gain, and urinary problems.

  • Dry indoor heating can affect skin and coat health.

Winter is a great time to review pain management, diet, hydration, and enrichment, especially for senior cats or those with chronic conditions.

🐶 Dogs & Winter Walks: A Leptospirosis Reminder

With increased rainfall, flooding, and standing water across Oxford and surrounding areas, the leptospirosis risk is very real.

Leptospirosis is spread through water contaminated by wildlife urine and can cause serious illness in dogs, and can also pose a risk to people.

✔️ Keeping your dog’s vaccinations up to date is one of the most important winter protections you can provide
✔️ Extra caution around puddles, flooded paths, and muddy areas is advised

If you’re unsure whether your dog’s vaccination is current, we’re happy to check.

🦠 Parasites & Seasonal Risks

Parasites don’t disappear in winter. Fleas, ticks, and worms can remain active year-round, particularly in milder or wet conditions. Consistent prevention helps avoid unpleasant surprises later on.
